I told dad to be patient with him and take a little more time trying to train him. However, after hoping for the best for a number of weeks, it became obvious that it wasn't going to work.

He Tried Professional Group Obedience Classes & Failed. At the time, one of his neighbors mentioned a friend who had had some success with obedience classes, so dad decided to give it a go. He took Oreo to group classes on weekends put on by the local park and recs - They worked on the basics of sit and stay and so on. It seemed to work for awhile but Oreo was too distracted with all the other dogs. At least it was a start. And any 'start' was good! I think that was because there were all those other dogs around him a it was just too distracting to work. I wish my Mom was there to be with Dad and Oreo. Maybe Oreo would have listened to Mom.

The Veterinarian Suggested A Do It Yourself  Dog Training Program And Even The Advanced Dog Whisperer Center, But Were Too Expensive And Complicated  The vet gave Dad a book course on dogs problems, that was supposedly excellent for Do It Yourself dog training. Dad tried that but I watched him and it wasn't very simple for him to follow and it didn't work on Oreo either. It seemed more for very experienced dog owners. It was probably excellent for advanced dog trainer types who wanted to spend hours a day with obedience and field training, but of no benefit for an 88 year old man and his dog. Honestly, I couldn't follow it very well either, too complicated.  Dad needed some sort of fun dog training that was an easy to follow, step by step type guide or program or something that would give him faster results without him having to spend hour after hour teaching his little dog every day to get Oreo to follow what he learned. His vet had also recommended another dog training program that was available in the local area and this vet could get my Dad into that program. You may have heard of this, it's called the "Dog Psychology Center" created by a dog professional named Cesar Millan. He's famous for his dog training program called "Dog Whisperer". I actually watched part of this myself. Dad actually lives near where that dog training center is located in Southern California. But when he told me what the cost was involved, frankly I told him absolutely no way. Threre had to be a good effective course to train your dog that actually worked for dogs problems, and that would be simple and proven to work, without spending thousands of dollars on professional dog trainers. My dad was getting discouraged and he just couldn't chase after his little dog and keep yelling at him to behave. And I was worried that Oreo would end up getting hit by a car.

Having spent so much time and Dads money and energy trying to succeed training Oreo, first with our own training and then obedience classes, books and expensive dog training courses that ultimately had very little effect on teaching Oreo was a big disappointment, until the final thing that Dad tried that was called "Secrets Of A Professional Dog Trainer".
